I highly recommend Simon and Sugar Renovations for your next renovation. Simon completed multiple renovation tasks for us in order to prepare for the arrival of our second child. This included removing a large unsafe closet and repairing the walls and floor, custom fitting new interior doors in our slanted old home, and finally solving our moldy shower window situation with a stone niche. Simon is an excellent communicator; he provided detailed written lists of all task to be done and notified us of all potential and actual changes as they arose both in writing and verbally. Simon was conscientious of our tight timeline and costs. Importantly, Simon was mindful we had a toddler and pets and ensured the house was safe and clean each evening. Having had negative contractor experiences in the past I can confidently say Simon is amazing.

We recently had a couple of projects completed by Sugar Renovations. Simon was great in all aspects of the project from initial contact through planning and final execution. He made suggestions to help streamline the project and gave several options for how the work could be completed to meet our budget. He was punctual and efficient completing both jobs on time (a little before projected finish date actually) and kept the costs in line with no surprises at the end. He was also sure to respect the job site as well as those living there and kept everything to a high standard of cleanliness during and afterward. I am very happy to provide a recommendation for Sugar Renovations and Simon Ross. The work completed for us was Part One of a two part renovation to a cottage. The portion completed looks beautiful. This recommendation is my honest opinion and assessment of the work he completed. Simon has very high standards for himself and his work. He is an Artisan in the true sense of the word.
He did an amazing job of selecting wood finishes and flooring to match as needed, as well as the best drywalling and drywall repairs I’ve ever seen, along with finishing trim, painting and laying floors. To do this all, he had to work in small spaces even moving some furniture about and maintaining the cottage so that we could continue to use it off and on throughout… it was above and beyond, very much appreciated and I never heard one complaint from him. If something was needed he was clear on the what and organized in the how.
His ability to work with what was there, keeping the parts that were good, and replacing, updating and matching things to flow where required was quite a feat. His expertise in putting it all together in a timely order, including many great suggestions to make everything flow were so helpful and workable. The quality of the work was beyond expectations and shows how skilled he truly is. I really can’t say this enough… the work completed is exceptional.
And… he did it ALL within the budget we’d allocated. Areas we went over budget were totally out of the scope of work originally quoted but were nevertheless completed, including new windows which were framed and installed. He had to work around an entire new roof that had to be installed due to unexpected storm damage. In spite of the extra work Sugar Renovations was still able to complete a substantial job in the time allotted and on budget which is quite amazing in and of itself.
I want to give Simon and Sugar Renovations a big shout out re billing too… all their invoices were clear, concise and well documented providing everything we might need in future for any warrantees etc. and clearly defining what was done. Never had any concerns re billing.
Finally the work completed is beautiful and we are looking forward to completing Part Two of this project soon!
